Rob DeBorde

Rob’s first book, Fish on a First-Name Basis (2006, Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press) is a fun, fact-filled cookbook loaded with seafood science, fish market full disclosures, and essential cooking tips, as well as over 200 illustrations and photographs, all created by the author. Fish was deemed “Quick, witty, and highly entertaining,” by the Library Journal, “Funny, amusing, and lyrical,” by the Providence Journal, and “A resource for everything you ever wanted to know about fish,” by the Baltimore Sun.

On the television front, Rob has written 50+ episodes of the Food Network’s top-rated Good Eats program. Host Alton Brown invited him to become the show’s co-writer after seeing Rob’s animated cooking concern, Deep Fried, Live! with Tako the Octopus, an award-winning* interactive cooking show hosted by an accident-prone octopus chef. Rob continues to write and produce the animated favorite (when he has time), which has been featured in Gourmet magazine and, despite a total lack of advertising, has been seen by millions viewers around the world (without the help of YouTube, thanks very much.)

More recently, Rob’s wrote a feature article for Every Day with Rachael Ray (April 2010) about overcoming seafood phobias entitled, “A Fish Hater’s Guide to Loving Fish.” A great many fish were eaten as a result of this writing. Sorry, fish.

*DFL! was named “Best Comedy” at the 2002 Showtime New Media Awards and “Best Animated Show” at the 2002 SXSW Earl Awards.
